TRAIN DRIVERS ASSISTANTS – 7 POSITIONS

JOB PURPOSE:

To assist the Train Driver in the safe and efficient operation of locomotives and trains, ensuring compliance with railway operating rules, Company procedures, signalling requirements, communication protocols and safety standards.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Train Driver in operating the locomotive and train safely.

  • Pre-Departure Inspection

  • Maintain continuous observation of railway signals.

  • Maintain effective communication with the Train Driver and other relevant parties.

  • Locomotive Monitoring

  • Assist with Train Movement and Shunting

  • Assist driver during emergencies

  • Reporting Defects and Incidents

  • Comply with all Safety rules

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science -  a minimum pass rate of 50%.

  • Completed an approved Train Driver Assistant / railway operational training programme.

  • Valid medical fitness certification applicable to railway safety-critical duties.

  • Formal railway operations qualification.

  • 10 years’ previous experience in locomotives.
